James ‘Jim’ Anthony SloateObituary: SloateJim, 60, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 8, 2015. Jim was born in Seattle on Sept. 16, 1954. The youngest child of James W. Sloate and Joy M. Sloate, he was preceded in death by his father.As an infant his family moved to Alaska where he spent his early childhood. Upon return to Washington he attended Olivia Park Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle, class of 1972.After high school he attended North Seattle Community College where he got a degree in electronics technology. After college he worked at TelTone and then Data IO. Later he was employed by Nintendo of America in Redmond where he worked for 20 years as a design engineer.Jim moved to Duvall in the early 70s, where he bought 10 acres and later designed and built his own house in the early 80s. Jim was married in 1984, had his daughter Anne in 1987 and son Steven in 1989.Jim loved to talk, tell stories about his life and laugh. He loved to travel, work outside in his shop, build and repair things, restore old cars and hang out with his children, family and friends.Jim is survived by his daughter Anne, new grandson Elijah James and his son Steven. He also leaves behind his mother Joy Sloate, sister Cathy Kilstrom, brother Michael Sloate and wife Linda, brother John Sloate and wife Robin, and Denise Sloate, mother of his children, as well as aunt Janet Gorman and uncle James Gorman and wife Faye. He also has many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. We love and miss you very much every day Dad, Gramps, Jimbo...Nintendo of Redmond held a memorial in his honor for his many friends and coworkers on Sept. 15, 2015.A private memorial — celebration of his life — is planned.
