Verle Louise Bowe, at 99, passed away on Oct. 17, 2015 in Marysville, Washington. She was born at home on Aug. 23, 1916 to Horace and Mabel Chipman of Duvall.Obituary: BoweAfter graduating from Duvall High School, she worked in Seattle. Verle and Philip Bowe, her high school classmate, were set to wed when his broken leg threw their plans awry.Undeterred, spunky Verle moved the event to Phil’s Swedish Hospital room. Doctors and nurses slipped in to see, making the marriage front-page news.Verle and Phil raised their children Gary, Susan and Greg in the Craftsman home her father had built. After Phil passed, Verle, at 54, learned how to drive, continued raising her children and worked at Whitfield’s Insurance, the library and election polls.Verle was passionate about her community. She was an active member of PTA, Civic Club, Historical Society, the Dougherty House and attended many town council meetings.She was a loyal member of the Sno-Valley Senior Center and worked many years at their steak dinners, while also caring for her children. She raised vegetables, canned fruit, enjoyed yard work and made numerous friends of all ages wherever she went.Verle was predeceased by her husband Phil, son Gary and sister Margaret. She is survived by her daughter Susan Steinhagen of Marysville; son Gregory (Jana) Bowe of Mulikteo; and grandchildren Donna (Paul) Binotto, Ron (Lori) Stewart and Nathan and Nicholas Bowe. She leaves three great-grandchildren: Jordan, Cameron and Alexa Binotto, and nieces and nephews.She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Holistic Adult Family Home for their dedicated care.A celebration of Verle’s life will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, Riverview School District, 15510 1st Avenue, Duvall. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Sno-Valley Senior Center, Carnation.
