Donald (Don) Alan Stanwyck
May 6, 1956 – Feb. 12, 2018Don was the firstborn child of Tom and Kay Stanwyck. His love of travel started early when he went to Japan as an exchange student while in high school. He then joined the Air Force where he was sent to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. This was where he met the love of his life, Jody. After getting engaged to her, he was sent overseas to be a spy. A couple years later, he came home and married her and they started their first farm in Corvallis, OR.After two years of farming and finishing their bachelor’s degrees, they moved to Illinois, Minnesota, back to Illinois, Colorado, New Jersey, Singapore, and back to Colorado. In the midst of these travels they had three children, Carraig, Danielle, and Jonathan. In Jonathan’s last year of high school, Don and Jody bought another farm in Longmont, CO. Shortly after that, he was hired by Microsoft and they moved their farm to Carnation, WA.Donald (Don) Alan StanwyckAnimals weren’t Don’s only interest. He also believed in being an example for the next generation. He started a Bible study/life group for high school boys in Winter of 2005. They are all still in touch with each other and with Don. He also hosted 14 exchange students, one of whom loved it so much he stayed three years. These teenagers came from all over the globe and Don was always fascinated to hear about their culture and learn from them. Again, most of them have stayed in touch because of the impact he made in their lives. He also participated in TEAL team through Microsoft teaching programming at Monroe High School. His favorite hobby was flying. He loved being in the air and took any excuse to go for a flight. He volunteered for years with Angel Flight, an organization that flies patients to their doctor appointments. He loved to give rides to his friends, showing them the sights from a different viewpoint. He lived a very full life, a life full of love. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jody Stanwyck; sons, Carraig (and Amber) Stanwyck of Kingsville, MO and Jonathan (and Veronica) Stanwyck of Cincinnati, OH; daughter Danielle Stanwyck of Aurora, CO; mother, Kay Stanwyck of Burns, OR; father, Tom Stanwyck of Portland, OR; sisters, Karen Lagace and Sandra James, both of Portland, OR; and brothers, Ken Stanwyck of Bend, OR and Tim Stanwyck of Hines, OR; and three grandchildren.
