Gareth Alden GrubeFrom his birth in Eugene, Oregon on November 13, 1944, Gareth exuded and shared his inherent kindness with friends and strangers alike. He was always available with a helping hand or a patient ear. He was a selfless human being and a role model for all who met him. He will be missed by the world.In 1962, Gareth graduated from Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. He then graduated from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks with a degree in civil engineering. He earned his master’s degree in environmental engineering from UAF before joining the United States Navy as an officer in 1968, serving until 1972, including a tour in Vietnam.Gareth’s professional engineering career was dedicated to protecting the rivers, lakes, and other waters of the Puget Sound for the safety of drinking water and the conservation of salmon.He is considered one of the founders of the City of Woodinville, and served the city in many formal and informal roles, including as a council member from 2001 through 2003.In his retirement, he finally purchased his dream car - an El Camino. He and Barbara spent their adult adventure together enjoying their many friends and family, laughing, loving, being silly, singing, sharing music, dancing, and traveling the world.A celebration of Gareth’s life will be held on July 29th at the Sammamish Valley Grange in Woodinville beginning at 3:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.He gave our world 73 years. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to give 73 minutes of kindness to a friend or stranger in his honor and memory.
