Sally Neill Candiano died May 17, 2011. She was 88.

Sally Neill CandianoIn 1957, Sally and Charles (Candy) Candiano were married in Encino, Calif., after meeting in the U.S. Officer’s Club in Frankfurt, Germany. Charles was stationed there after World War II and Sally was employed at the U.S. Embassy. They lived briefly in Arizona, Washington, D.C., NYC, Chicago and New Mexico before settling in Los Altos, Calif., where they lived for 37 years and raised one daughter, Nicole.

Sally and Candy retired to Cloverdale, Calif., in 2000, where they enjoyed visiting the nearby wineries and the redwood forests of Northern California and made many new friends. In 2006, they moved to Washington to be closer to family and resided at Emerald Heights in Redmond, where their circle of friends expanded again.

Sally was a loving wife, busy mother and doting grandmother. She was also a dedicated school volunteer, Girl Scout leader and church volunteer. She found time to complete an AA degree at Foothill Junior College in Los Altos Hills, Calif., and to become a travel agent as well. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, camping, organizing neighborhood parties and gardening. She loved animals, especially cats and donkeys, and rescued many lost and injured pets and wild animals during her lifetime. She was known to "adopt" animals who showed up at her house, only to discover later that they did have families, but preferred living with her because she fed them continuously!

Sally is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles; her daughter, Nicole and son-in-law, Bruce (Johnson); granddaughter, Caya; niece, Gail Neill and half-sister, Katie McCulloch (Albuquerque, NM). She is preceded in death by her brother, Avery Neill, Jr.
