“Merrick,” a Briard, is a family 4-H project for North Bend siblings Connor (holding Merrick), Katie-Elizabeth and Garrett Meyers. They are members of Hoofs-n-Paws 4-H Club of Duvall and were exhibiting Merrick at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. Connor is the dog showman, Katie-Elizabeth does the grooming and Garrett is the dog photographer. Many FFA and 4-H members will go on to exhibit their projects at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup, which started Sept. 6. The Washington State Fair, formerly the Puyallup Fair, a 113-year icon, will debut under its new name, running for its traditional 17 days. Fair officials say the 10th largest fair in the country has represented the people, animals and agriculture, and arts in Washington for decade after decade, and the name now recognizes that presence.
